More Stuff on the Patreon

No new webcomic today since I'm still a bit backlogged right now, but I've added two new pages to the Patreon site, a new page of Bad Rapture, and a new page of the Patreon exclusive "Lost" strip, "SDF: Cyclopean".  It's been really weird for me rereading Cyclopean, because it feels like it was written by a completely different person.  Actually, the whole thing feels alien to me, from the art style to the approach to the dialogue.  I'm only a few years removed from the story, but it feels like a story written by someone else.  Weird.

Anyway, you can support the cause for a tiny amount of cashola at:  http://www.patreon.com/torcpress

Skull Mob 5-20

QUICK UPDATE!!!  I knew I was forgetting something!  Skull Mob was going to go back to the full Monday through Friday schedule this week, but I just remembered I need to finish some work for the Comic Quest Creator's Alliance this week, so I'm gonna stick to the Monday & Wednesday only schedule for one more week.  Sorry!

First off, we're starting the new schedule on Patreon this week in full force, so over at www.patreon.com/torcpress we've got:

A newly put up Page of The Hot Fudge Sundae Adventure Club #23.

A new page of Clown & Penguin #0, exclusive to Patreon subscribers, which is a story that fills in the gap between the time of the Clown's Cosmic Awakening, and the actual start of his time as a servant of Omnichronus.

A new page of Hot Fudge Pulp featuring the Origin of Mister Halloween.  This is a really cool comic featuring the official origin of one of the TORCverses oldest characters, and the only way to view it is before the Print Edition comes out is to subscribe to TORC Press on Patreon.  Ta-Da!

Anyway, Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob #5/Bad Rapture Chapter 3/Page 20.

When you're working with tons and tons of characters, it's pretty easy to forget some.  In this case, both me and Boolah almost forgot about two of the top ranked Evil Angels, Romiel and the Beauty.  So this page is one of those, "We're still here, boss!" kinda pages.  I'm still not the best Editor that ever lived.  Of course, knowing what I know about Marvel and DC, I'm pretty sure I'm not the worst either.

Bad Rapture Alpha Now Available

First off, as we noted yesterday, new content has been added to the Patreon site at http://www.patreon.com/torcpress.  There's two pages from HFSAC 23 up (the double page spread from that issue), as well as a page of the Jester Kidd story from Pulp Horrorshow v.4.

Also, this Bad Boy is now available for Sale in Print Edition:

Bad Rapture Alpha, the first Chapter in me and Boolah's Epic Brawl Crossover, is now available for sale in the online store at http://www.torcpress.com/store/.  It's $4.00 plus $1.50 S&H for 24 Pages in Full Color.  The entire story is available to be viewed for free both here on the blog, or at the above mentioned Patreon site, but buying the Print Edition is not only Cooler, but it's a great way to show your support for TORC Press.  It's a really good book, full of all sorts of crazy stuff, so make sure to score a copy.  Why not?

Skull Mob 5-19

First off, I mentioned changes to the Patreon site at http://www.patreon.com/torcpress yesterday.  Today I've got the official page release schedule (which is subject to change depending on the situation):

I am currently putting all of the Bad Rapture Crossover up on my Patreon, so a page of that will go up Monday-Friday.

Monday:  A new page of Hot Fudge Pulp featuring the Origin of Mr. Halloween.  This is a brand new comic that is exclusive to Patreon subscribers.   In addition, Clown & Penguin #0, which fills in some of the story gap from when the Clown first became Cosmic also posts on Monday, and is also exclusive to Patreon subscribers.

Tuesday:  A new page of SDF: Cyclopean posts.  This is a "lost" comic from the good ole days when the Clown and Penguin lived in a run down house in Illinois and spent a lot of time sitting on the couch watching TeeVee when they weren't Monster Fighting.  This one is exclusive to Patreon subscribers.

Wednesday:  Pulp Horrorshow v. 4, the Big Wulf story, posts on Wednesdays.  I never actually finished Pulp Horrorshow v. 4, so I'm using this opportunity to wrap that bad boy up.  This one is open to the public.

Thursday:  Pulp Horrorshow v. 4 featuring the debut of Jester Kidd, a character that we will be seeing again in the future.  Also open to the public.

Friday:  Pulp Horrorshow v. 4 featuring the debut of a new BoJangles.  This comic is a brand new addition to Pulp Horrorshow v. 4, and can only be viewed on the Patreon site.

So, there you go.  Moving on to...

Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture Chapter 3/Page 19.

I feel like I may need to explain this page a little (hopefully I don't, but in case my storytelling falls a little short...), so here's a panel by panel breakdown:

Panel 1:  When a member of the Hot Fudge Sundae Adventure Club is severely injured, they wrap themselves in a protective cocoon while their body undergoes repairs.  So, those weird pod things in panel one are, in fact, Electric Cherry, Eyemo, Eyemii, and Los Super Hip Bros.  I didn't have the space to properly show this effect, so I just rolled the dice and hoped people would figure out what I was going for.  They probably won't.

Panel 2:  Platageddon isn't dead, but his body has been completely destroyed.  The "Z" balloon is not only to reinforce that he's not dead, but also to continue the running gag that Platageddon sleeps through EVERYTHING, even his own decapitation.

Panel 3:  Razorfish is also dead (it's not just a flesh wound...), having used his body to shield Sally Mander from the impact of the Vertionce crashing to earth.  Razorfish was a character I created when I was a teenager, but he's only been in the actual TORCverse for a few years now.  I'm gonna miss him.  He was a good guy.

Panel 4:  On the right hand side you can see what's left of Dust, who was directly under the Vertionce when he returned to Earth.  Almost from the moment I envisioned this story 2 or 3 years ago, I knew that Dust was gonna die at this precise moment.  Destiny can suck sometimes.

Panel 5:  A character we haven't really bothered to mention is Estiel, the Blue Angel on the Right Hand side of this panel.  She's a Good Angel who remained loyal to the Matron.  Sadly, neither me or Boolah have taken much of an interest in her, so she's ended up not getting a lot of screen time.  She, @byss, and SOL (and Sally Mander, kinda) are the only Geek Heroes left standing after the blast.

Some Patreon Changes

One handy thing about being on the road is that you have some time to think and run ideas through your head.  As a result, I've made a slight change to my Patreon site at http://www.patreon.com/torcpress

The New $5/Month Reward is that you not only get access to all of my exclusive Patreon content, but occasionally (every 2 to 3 months) I will be creating short, 8 page Black and White comics, and all of my $5 Patrons will get a copy mailed to them upon completion of the comic.  I like this better than emailing a jpg of art, because that plan seemed kinda wishy-washy.  Also, I make comics, not pin-ups, so my rewards should include comics in them, when feasible.

Other than that, new Skull Mob tomorrow.

Skull Mob 5-18

Welp, I'm back from Cincinnati.  First off, I'd like to give a big old thanks to Clint Bassinger and Lindsey Whittle for giving me a place to stay for the weekend, as well as being really great friends.  Thanks guys!  Also, a big thanks to those that came out to support TORC Press at the show.

Anyway, we're still on a reduced schedule, so one new webcomic today, and one on Wednesday, and that is it for this week.

Speaking of which:

Skul Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 18.

BOOM.

Skull Mob 5-17

Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture Chapter 3/Page 17.

And that was when the Vertionce returned from the Moon.

That's it for the webcomics this week.  I'll be at the Cincinnati Comic Expo this weekend from Friday through Sunday, sharing a table with my longtime comrade-in-arms Clint Bassinger.  If you're in the area, make sure to stop by and say hi.

Monday, September 15, 2014

Skull Mob 5-16

Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 16.

Again, we're keeping a reduced schedule for a few weeks, so Page 17 will go up on Wednesday, and that will be it for the week.

Other than that, I'll be at the Cincinnati Comic Expo this weekend sharing a table with long time friend of the TORCverse Clint Bassinger.

Skull Mob 5-15

Today's webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 15.

In the original script and thumbnails for this one, the original instructions were to do a 9 to 12 panel fight scene and to "Go Nuts".  Unfortunately, instead of going nuts, all I could do was stare at the page and go "Duuuurrrr?"  So I simplified things and turned it into a single Splash page with just about every character on it (I missed a few.  Crap.).  It was a good exercise, because I'm always trying to work on my splash pages trying to make them stronger.

Skull Mob 5-14

Aaaaaand we're back.  Kinda.

Last week's weather inflicted me with a series of crippling headaches, which pretty much shut down production here in the TORCverse.  I had a lot of outside work to do this weekend, and the next two weekends are busy as well, as I have a wedding this weekend and a convention in Cinncinnatti the next.  Soooooo, as a result, we're just going to adjust the schedule this week, and only release two pages per week for the next three to four weeks.  So, there will be a new page of Skull Mob today and Wednesday, and then nothing new until next Monday.

Last week's Patreon Pledge Drive also ended in absolutely spectacular failure, as we were unable to pick up any new Patrons at all.  Oh well, you win some, you lose some.  The handy thing about the Patreon site is that it stays up permanently, so anytime anyone wants to show some support for the cause, they can.

Speaking of which, another new page of "Hot Fudge Pulp:  The Origin of Mr. Halloween!" has gone up on the Patreon Site.  It's the first time in TORC Press History that we've actually seen Hell, so that alone makes it fairly interesting.  It's only available for viewing if you're a Patron, so there's that.

Anyway, here's today's webcomic:

Skull Mob #5/Bad Rapture Chapter 3/Page 14.

I like today's page.  It's got a very 90s Image vibe to it.

Skull Mob 5-13

Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 13.

Due to a crippling headache last night, today's page wasn't completed until, well, today.  Not sure if tomorrow's will get done or not.

Patreon Pledge Drive Day 2/Skull Mob 5-12

Before we get to today's webcomic, just a reminder that it is Patreon Pledge Drive Week here in the TORCverse.  We've got the goal of trying to get 1 additional subscriber to our Patreon page, and since we haven't met that yet, the Pledge Drive continues!  Please support TORC Press and Independent Comics!  Head on over to www.patreon.com/torcpress and throw a little support our way.  Last night we added more pages to our Patreon exclusive webcomics, "SDF: Cyclopean" and "Clown & Penguin #0" and just this morning we added a new page to Clown n Penguin Zero.  For only a dollar you can view this "Lost" comics, as well as a brand new, Patreon exclusive strip, "Hot Fudge Pulp" featuring Mr. Halloween!

Now, for today's webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 12.

Ah, the halfway point.  Gotta love that.  You can tell Boolah really enjoys writing dialog for Doom Eagle and Sol.

Patreon Pledge Drive Week Day 1

It's Patreon Pledge Drive Week!  It's time to show some love for TORC Press by pledging to us on Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/torcpress.  But what is Patreon and why should you contribute?  Welp, read on:

What is Patreon?  Nowadays, crowdfunding is a big thing.  Generally, on sites like Kickstarter or... other sites that are essentially Kickstarter, the public will donate to a specific project that requires a lot of money to produce.  For example, if you need a fat stack of cash to finish a movie, you can put it up on Kickstarter, and if enough people pledge enough money, you get the cash you need to finish a money.  Ta-da!  I've thought about doing a Kickstarter, but I don't have a BIG project I need a BIG sum of money for.  I do lots and lots and lots of LITTLE Projects.  Then I discovered Patreon.  Patreon is a site for Active Creators who create on a regular basis.  By going on Patreon and pledging to TORC Press, you are voicing your approval of what I do and giving me some cash to boot.  Most Patreon sites charge people per product or page, but since I produce a LOT of comics, and I'm not interested in accidentally sending someone to the poorhouse (seriously, I've already put up over 40 Entries in less than a month) my Patreon Site takes money MONTHLY.  So, if you pledge $1 a month, you will only be spending $1 a month even if I post 100 new creations in a single month.

Why am I on Patreon?  Because even though I create comics purely out of my love of creating comics, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any to make a little money off of it.  I've been going at this for quite awhile now, and everything I've tried (exhibiting at conventions, sending comics to comic shops, online store, twitter, facebook, ect) has ended in failure, and usually ended up costing me more money than I actually made.  I'm fine with losing money on stuff like art supplies and printer ink, but I'm getting tired of spending a ton of money going to conventions and not even making the cost of the table (The Disasters at C2E2 and Wizard World: Chicago will haunt me till the day I die...).  With Patreon, at the very least, I'm not out any money, and I can hopefully make a little bit to help pay for things like art supplies and toner ink or whatever.

Why should you support TORC Press on Patreon?  Because you'll give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.  Because you'll be showing your support for the hardest working small press comic creator/sawmill hand/taco enthusiast in the business.  Because if you've been enjoying the free comics I've been putting up on my blog for the last few years, then this is a great way to show your appreciation without spending too much money.  Oh, and Because there's some Cool REWARDS.

What you get for supporting TORC Press on Patreon:

$1 a month Pledge:  For a measly $1 a month/$12 dollars a year (which is, what, 3 gallons of gas?) you get unlimited access to all of the comics I'll be putting online on my Patreon site.  Not only will I be posting all of the comics I put up here on the blog/ main site, but I am already loading the TORC Press Patreon with exclusive comics.  They include:

SDF: Cyclopean-  A "Lost" comic I created years ago, but never published, this is Old School TORC Press, featuring the more street level Cactus Joe the Clown, a Pengy Penguin without powers, and Voodoo Dolly back when she was their roommate and they all lived in a house and not in space.  It's a cool, dark comic, and the only way to read it online before I put it in Print is to subscribe to my Patreon site.

Clown & Penguin #0-  Another "Lost" comic that details the first meeting between the Clown & Penguin and their eventual master, Omnichronus, Judge of Worlds.  Essentially the origin story for all of the cosmic comics I've been doing for the last few years.

Hot Fudge Pulp #1-  A BRAND NEW COMIC set in the MODERN TORCVERSE!  Hot Fudge Pulp features the return of a Classic TORC Press character with an ALL NEW ORIGIN STORY!  Presented in Full Color and Updated at least once a week, strap yourself in for... The Origin of Mr. Halloween!

I recently added some new rewards too.  Check em out...

$5 a month Pledge:  Okay, this is a little more expensive at $5 a month/ $60 dollars a year (enough money to gas up an SUV... twice), but you not only get the same all access pass as the $1 Pledge, you also get a piece of original, exclusive, not available anywhere else TORC Press Artwork E-Mailed to you once a month.  Original artwork sent directly to your computer, once a month, for only $5.  Use it as a screen saver, or show your friends the psychedelic cosmic goodness or whatever.

$10 a month Pledge:  I'm not gonna lie, pledging $10 is a stretch, and I don't really expect anyone to do it, but if you do, I will totally make it worth your while.  For years now I've been contemplating the idea of having a TORC Press Subscription service, well, if you Pledge $10 a month to TORC Press, you essentially have a Subscription to TORC Press.  Once a month I will send you a comic from my catalog of over 100 Titles!  You can request a specific comic, or newer comics, or older comics or whatever.  Customize your subscription however you see fit!  In addition, I'll probably send you additional, original artwork along with your order.  Think about it, once a month you get a crazy, new TORC Press comic in your mailbox!  How cool is that!

My Goal for this Pledge Drive:  The first TORC Press Pledge Drive is going to run all week long, and my goal is to double the number of people I have Pledging to TORC Press.  Since I currently have one person pledging $1 (and a BIG TIME THANKS for that!), my goal for the week is to increase my Pledges to 2 people and $2.  Help make our first Patreon Pledge Drive a success!  Head over to http://www.patreon.com/torcpress and Pledge $1!  I thank you in advance.

Skull Mob 5-11

Today's Webcomic:

Skull Mob 5/Bad Rapture 3/Page 11.

I like how Boolah's got a pretty strong grasp of most of my cast already.  The Hip Brothers throwing a dance party in the middle of a battlefield is utterly, utterly TORC Press.

Okay, it is Patreon Pledge Drive Week, so the next post will be me begging for money.  Enjoy!
